I began 2 The People in my living room while I was holding my newborn son. I was overwhelmed, exhausted, and deeply concerned about how I could financially afford to care for the baby in my hands. I was on unpaid maternity leave from work because I didn't know that I needed to have disability insurance, and I didn't know to ask about paid maternity leave when I accepted the position. I was stressed about when another paycheck would come because my husband is a car salesman and there's never a guarantee of income. I didn't have childcare lined up for the end of my maternity leave because I didn't know that the 'good daycares' have waitlists longer than it takes to grow a baby, and I ended up having to leave my job. Though that was just the tip of my concerns, I was blessed to be in a position to have a partner in my husband and to have a family who did what they could. To think of the stress I felt, even with the help I had, I knew that more needed to be done to connect moms and expecting mothers to the resources that they needed to be better prepared for this new phase of life. Because I know that there are far too many mothers that battle much more intense circumstances alone.

By bringing organizations, and state agencies together, we aim to reach as many people as possible. It truly should never be the case that someone is struggling simply because they don't know that there are resources available to change their situation.
